Fuel Cost and Forklift Tire Wear
Fuel Cost and Forklift Tire Wear
What we all know is that the tire pressure on your car can effect gas mileage. What most forklift owners don’t realize is that forklift cushion tire tread wear has the same effect.
When just 30% of the tire is gone the fuel consumption increases by as much as 10%. So if your application is using one full tank a day at $25.00 a tank, $ 500 per month then the increase would be $ 50.00 – 2 additional tanks! That will certainly add up over time and become a much BIGGER fuel cost amount.
Reflex modulus is a calculation of the impact transmitted through the rubber of a typical cushion rubber press-on tire on a forklift. Another term for reflex modulus is shock transfer to load.
Recommendation limit for tire wear before replacement, press-on tires is no more than 50% rubber wear. Usually for most tire brands once the wear is at the Tire Name and size information on the sidewall they should be replaced.
